Meet our Photo/Video Associate, Laura Chramer!

Since the Spring of 2022, Electro has been elevated with the creative ingenuity of Laura Chramer. As a photo/video associate, Laura’s superpower lies in creating photos and videos that bring our client's visions to life and help them achieve their marketing goals.

Southern Born and Raised

Laura grew up in Trussville, Alabama, just a 20-minute drive from Electro headquarters in Birmingham. After starting her college career at Jefferson State Community College, Laura completed her bachelor’s degree in communication and her master’s degree in journalism at the University of Alabama.

A fun fact about Laura is that she has a twin! She says, “I have a younger sister, who is often mistaken for my twin, and a brother, who actually is my twin.”

Writing Her Way into Photography

Laura wasn’t always behind a camera in the world of marketing. Fresh out of school, Laura worked as a copy editor and page designer for various newspapers. From there, she explored diverse roles, working as a Communications Specialist at the University of Alabama and a video editor for the publishing company Dotdash Meredith, collaborating with major brands. Needless to say, the variety of experiences Laura brings to Electro has been invaluable to our team!

During her first newspaper position for the Opelika-Auburn News, Laura sparked an interest in sports photography. She began to work as a freelance photographer amidst her other roles, having much success. Laura says, “Curiosity and perseverance took me from photographing local high school sports all the way to the sidelines of the College Football Playoff National Championship.”

In the Spring of 2022, a fellow video-team volunteer at Laura’s church introduced her to Electro’s president, Scott Elliott, and we couldn’t be more thankful! Laura joined our team in 2022, working closely with our media director, Daniel Canvas.

We’re also thankful she’s willing to put up with all of Daniel’s dad jokes.

A Day In the Life of a Photo/Video Associate

As the leader of Electro's "social" style photography and coordinator for photography and video projects, Laura’s day kicks off with a sync-up with Daniel, our media director. They discuss ongoing projects and potential pitches and engage in lively brainstorming sessions to explore creative choices that best serve our clients. She also touches base with Missy, our project coordinator, and other internal and external team members to keep everyone on track.

The heart of Laura’s day revolves around editing photo and video projects using Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere. This is where the magic happens, bringing visuals to life that help our clients achieve their goals.

During the workday, you might catch Laura sipping on an oat milk latte on a walk-and-talk around the office with a co-worker or at her desk, probably snacking away (she loves her snacks). But often, you won’t find her at the office at all! Laura says one of her favorite parts of working for Electro is getting out of the office to build client relationships through photography and videography projects.

Ultimately, Laura’s role is to mediate and advocate for projects, ensuring all stakeholders understand their options and timeframes. Being a point of contact for contractors and creatively framing projects with different perspectives is all part of the grand mission - to create photos and videos that perfectly align with our clients' goals.

More Than The “Click of a Button”

Even considering the high-profile projects she has undertaken, Laura values her perseverance as the most successful aspect of her career. She takes pride in showing up and giving her best, even when faced with challenges like broken lenses, camera card failures, or faced with day-to-day setbacks. In her words, “If I’ve done my best and acted with integrity, that’s a win for me.”

When asked what the most important thing she’s learned while working for Electromagnetic, Laura says, “Executing an intentional vision, especially one influenced by others, is much different than documenting an event in the moment. Anyone can hit a button ‘take’ a photo; it takes someone’s thought and vision to make a photo.”

Laura’s faith plays a significant role in her life and career. She lives by the truth of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways, know Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Clocking Out

Outside of work, you’re likely to find Laura cooking delicious meals or competing with her friends in various games, from pickleball to Dutch blitz! She enjoys recharging her social battery by hiking with her dog and learning about new topics through Masterclass videos.

Essential Marketing Advice

When asked what are the most important aspects of good marketing, Laura says, “To me, good marketing has to have a solid sense of self. Know who you are and then why you do what you do. Authenticity is a good conductor.”

One recent marketing campaign Laura enjoyed was the “The Chosen Is Not Good” campaign. Like most people, Laura was fooled into thinking the billboards for her favorite show had been vandalized by graffiti. Turns out, it was really just a gag to drum up interest.
